We are a couple who have been with each other for so long we can’t remember not being with each other. All kidding aside, during that time we’ve had many pets and a number of problem case animals through the years.
We have a vast amount of experience handling animals and caring for pets over the years and we would like to share those experiences and stories with others that may have similar experiences.
WE ARE NOT VETERINARIANS
While we’ve had many experiences with pets and animals over the years; neither of us is a qualified veterinarian.
If you think your pet or animal may need veterinary care… then you should take them to get some veterinary care! Our advice and sharing of experiences here is only meant to be a resource to help you make a better decision with your own pet.
With your pets, issues are going to arise. Sometimes life threatening diseases and issues that endanger their well being will present themselves. Having the knowledge of how someone else dealt with a similar issue can be a tremendous resource for a pet owner.
We decided to put up this website to share the pictures initially, be we then also decided that we had enough problem case animals over the years that we could offer advice to others that may have similar issues with their animals.
We’ve gained our knowledge over 20+ years of pet rescue experience. All of our animals were, and are, well vetted by professional veterinarians.
We recommend you make sure your pet is as well! Our advice and recommendations here are based upon experience, and our tried methods for different issues specific to our case. If you think your pet may need veterinary care, you should bring it to a qualified and licensed veterinarian.
Making do when you can’t afford care
With that being said, we’re not rich people and we’ve had to make do with what we’ve had more times than we can count. Veterinary care costs can start to climb and then they get overwhelming depending on the problem or condition of your animal. In our experience, the veterinarian you go to is a factor as well. Make sure you are going to a veterinarian you trust.
A piece of paper on the wall does not make an expert. While good to see those diplomas and certificates, the care your pet receives matter’s too. If you’re uncomfortable with your veterinarian, don’t be afraid to get a second opinion or move your pet to someone you are comfortable with.
We hope, through our experiences, we can help others choose how they want to supplement their veterinary care. Some pet owners will jump the gun and rush their pet to the vet no matter the issue, only to get there and the veterinarian tell them to keep an eye on things. Then charges you for a visit.
You might luck out if you have to return for a “discounted” follow up because you were already there. You may not luck out and get charged again. On the other hand… “luck” has got nothing to do with it if you have to return with your animal. Worst case scenario, you’re making an emergency visit over the weekend with some emergency vet because your own vet doesn’t take weekend visits. Been there done that.
Articles, Resources, Stories, and Information
There will be a variety of articles at our website regarding a wide range of issues. We’ll be documenting things such as “how to stop your dog from grabbing the tootsie rolls out of the cat’s litter box”. There are some pricey options to mitigate that behavior of course. However; guess what? There’s also some lower cost alternative fixes to keep your little “Rover” from munching where the cat’s been stomping.
Are you pet sitting and you also already have pets… or maybe you’re fostering a dog temporarily? We can help with such issues like feeding and keeping the animals separate if need be. You’ve got cats that scratch your furniture? We can help you make a scratching post or maybe even a build your own cat tree from scratch. Yep. All by yourself. Got rope, hot glue and a board? Yes… then you have everything but the time and the knowledge my friend.
We can show you how to curb your expenses if you have to. We’ve literally tried hundreds of pet products over the years. We’ll be reviewing pet products to weed out the bad stuff and hopefully stop you from wasting your time with the stuff that doesn’t work. These are the sort of things we can… and want to help you with.
We hope you pull something from our website that helps you. When we look back over the years, the one phrase that keeps repeating in our minds is… “if only we’d have known” this or that.
We hope this website becomes a place where maybe “we” ourselves could have gotten the information we needed when we were looking for it. A place where maybe someone else has an issue like we had at one time. Couldn’t find the organization? Couldn’t find the online community? Couldn’t find the right product? We’ll be sharing those experiences here as well.
