Hello there ! My name is Paws. Yes, the “Paws” in our website title here. My sister “Belle” is mentioned as well. I got my name because my paws have a bit “extra”! Some cats are born with extra toes and I’m one of them. I have two extra toes that stick out the side of my paw in a way that looks like a “thumb”. It allows me to grab a little “extra” so I usually have what cat toys I want to have.
My toes are bit sensitive, and I won’t let you touch them unless I trust you and of course, you have to insist. My sensitivity may be a result of my surgery early in life to have my claws removed. If you’d like to know more on that, check out this declawing article.
The sensitivity in my toes doesn’t stop me from smashing my paws on the floor to get attention. If I feel threatened by another cat or my sister, I use my paws as bats to smash the floor to sound like mighty thunder. The effect of course is that I sound a lot bigger and more threatening than I actually am. I don’t fool Belle any more but those other cats go running.. hahahaha.
Sometimes I push it too far though and these other cats pull out knives on me. I kid you not. They have knives in their front paws like I have “diggers” in my back paws. They must be some kind of mutants. Anyway, we all get along now… it’s all good. It’s like a mutual respect thing happening. They respect me.. and I’m happening!
I am 14 years old this year (Oct 23)… and of course neutered. It’s the responsible thing to do after all. I don’t want little kittens running around everywhere. What’s left for me to eat if there’s a litter or two added to the mix here? I’ve been called a tuxedo cat but I don’t think I am one of those myself. Aren’t they black and white cats? However; I do look dapper and I look like I have a formal jacket on. So maybe…
I have a grey nose which differs from my sister’s pink nose. In fact, it’s how you tell us apart. I have some grey patterning going on around my mouth and nose area but you can’t see that unless I’m heading your way. I have some loose skin hanging under my belly. This is natural for aging cats but may be accentuated by the fact that I’ve lost some weight since I’ve been in my new home.
I have a small little skin tag on my back. It looks like a scab that doesn’t want to go away. It’s just dry skin. There’s no blood but it looks like there’s a dry flaky patch about the size of half a dime and it’s kind of on the hard side. It doesn’t bother me at all, but it is noticeable.
I no longer eat dry cat food unless it’s a treat. I’m on a wet cat food diet now. I’ve lost a good 10 lbs as a result and I feel much more energetic. I play all the time now. I love chasing that red orb around the house (editor’s note: laser light). I never catch it but I am soooo close I can taste it.
I’m a “schedule” cat. What’s a schedule cat? I make sure everyone stays on schedule. I’m the one that gets everyone moving in the morning. You could set an alarm clock to my behavior. I wake up my owners when they don’t get up. I nibble on hair… lick faces… and lay on chests to wake up humans. Some times they just don’t move.
Good thing I’m around or nobody would ever eat. I know when dinner time is too and don’t get me going on why they need me at that time too. I keep everyone on “schedule” like a feline alarm clock.
When it comes to dinner time, I eat fast. So fast that I can go clear everyone else’s bowl before they even know I’ve been there. I’m a ninja kitty on top of everything else. I’m so good that my owners now separate me so that I’m by myself until everyone else is done eating. Sometimes I eat too fast and then I throw up.
Here’s the story… When there’s dry food left out all the time (like in my previous home), you don’t have to worry about the next meal… it’s always there in the bowl. Wet food means feeding times… specific times when you eat… and I eat as much as I can because who knows when the next feeding time’s going to be?
I love to play… and I love the “click-kitty clack” of the keyboard as my owner types. However; they spend way too much time on that internet box and sometimes I have to force some play time in on them. They’ll thank me for it someday (editor’s note: Paws is the break you need, right when you need it).
I’ve made some new friends in my new home. I’m sure it pleases my sister “Belle” to no end that I have somewhere else to focus my attention on. I don’t see her as much anymore. I think she avoids me. I love playing in the cat trees and with the rope. I’m in all my glory when I have a pile of rope. Check out my photo shoot for more on that.
I’m a very curious cat that always likes to involve myself in anything that’s going on. At the very least I’ll do a “drive by” to see if I want to get involved. What’s a “drive by”? That’s when when you do a quick run through a room to see if you want to get involved in the goings on in there. If you don’t… just “drive on by” and walk right out. It’s also an alarm clock move. “hey human, it’s about time I hear some cans a poppin’ with some food a droppin”.
I also like to spend time to myself. Sometimes I want to get away from my sister… and my humans… and my new friends… and just tuck myself into a nice little hiding spot to be alone. I can’t be the fire under everyone’s butt and keep this ship running on a tight schedule without it taking it’s toll somewhere. Super cats need rest too.
I also hide when it’s claw cutting time. I have my back claws still and they’re trimmed from time to time. I’m not into that so much.
I also have a great time chasing my tail. It’s a blast. Maybe I’ll let my humans catch me on video one day. I’m sure you’ll be entertained. I sure am.
Aside from that… I love to sit in the window outside of my hut. Hanging with my friends… yes… even if it is with my sister. We contemplate our new friends… we think about our new home… and we fixate on the bees chilling on the flowers outside the window. A butterfly sometimes lands on the window screen and makes my day all that much better.
